Like it or not there's a bit of fun in Halloween.

We've made some monster like eyes from hardboiled eggs.

We used eggs and what ever was in the cupboard to make these little treats for Halloween.

Gherkins, carrot, tomato, baked beans, brocolli, paprika, capers and tomato sauce all played supporting roles.

I don't think Weta Work Shop will be calling soon BUT these were really quick and a lot of fun to make.

I'm at The Hawke's Bay Show 19-21 October.

We had a heap of fun here last year in all sorts of egg based activities.

Finding the regions fastest omelette maker, cooking with young farmers and the famous Tui Girls.

We even got Rt Hon Phil Goff to make an omelette!

I'm looking forward to another great show. We'll have lots of recipes to give away and competitions to enter.

Antioxidants Galore!

As well as containing protein, iodine, B vitamins, selenium and vitamin D, eggs have antioxidant powers, say US experts. They discovered that egg yolks contain the amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine, which have potent antioxidant properties. In fact, two eggs deliver the same antioxidant hit as an apple!

A little weather improvement has put a spring in my step this week.

I'm excited by the slightly longer days and I see that most people seem to be smiling more!

Eggs have been filling the need for Vitamin D over the winter. One of the few foods to contain this important vitamin which also comes from sun light.

We've featured the Caesar Salad this week. A well proven dish, quite easy to make and very versatile. I added a few smoked mushrooms to mine.

Our new video recipe is the first in a series where we'll show you (in less than one minute) how to cook egg dishes. First up is the frittata. A great dish whether you're using up a few left-overs for lunch or packing a picnic or feeding a crowd.

I was encouraged by Ben to try frying marmite with an egg. The result worked well. Who would have thought?

Have a great weekend and let me know what you've been cooking.

Come on guys! I've heard from a few people this week that they eat egg whites but not the yolk.

Most of the goodness is in the yolk. Here's what I found at wise-nutritions.com

"To successfully attain the vitamins and minerals of the egg you'll have to consume the entire egg. In fact,, the yolk is the place where the majority of the nutrients is obtained from. The yolk is packed full of fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids. Believe it or not, the slew of vitamins and nutrients within the egg yolk is so all-encompassing that a couple per day would likely give better insurance than a multi-vitamin. Egg whites, however, hold far fewer nutrients."

So there you have it, egg yolks are full of goodness.

Eggs are in fact so good that other foods have started to impersonate them

Impersonation is a form of flattery so I've heard.

There's very little impersonating in the food worls so I reckon eggs must be very special.

Bar Salute in Greytown have created a dessert burger (see photo).

I've asked the chef there to let us know what it's made of and I'll let you know. In the meantime what do you think is in The Dessert Egg Burger.

What a busy week! I'm pleased to be egg-fueled so powered on through.

The Food Show in Auckland
Big difference of opinion between the purest Bacon and Egg Pie fans (that's a pie with Bacon, Eggs and nothing else)

and those who like to get a bit creative with it, including potatoes, peas, cheese, onion soup mix etc etc.

Omelettes - As-Seen-On-TV this week, the dish that's good any time with any ingredients.

I cooked omelettes with cheese and spinach then folded the them into quarters and stuffed them into pita breads (photo), Yum!

I had the great pleasure of cooking eggs for a little girl that previously didn't like them. She loved my omelette and came back for more (4 times). her mum was so pleased, it made my day.

I told them that I should wear a cape!

Eggs are a super food so I assumed that I was a Superman like Egg Guy.

They said no BUT I think that this article proves that I may have been right!

The article is from The Daily Mail in the UK so it will be accurate.

I bumped in to Neville from NZ Manuka Smoked Eggs at The Food Show in Auckland last weekend.

Great guy, great product. he's taken the iconic New Zealand egg and cold smoked it with Manuka.

A really interesting idea, a bit of Kiwi ingenuity and a wonderful flavour.

We're having a ball at the North Shore events centre!

The French Toast (Eggy Bread) with cinnamon, vanilla sugar and honey is just delicious. Quick and easy and popular with everyone.

A lady called Claire shared her husband's 'Eggmont' recipe with me. So I'll try that soon and post the result here.

So we're in for some fun over the weekend, hope to see you there.
